Having been working on our length into the front end and our cleanness round the finish, this term has been more about setting up the right technique and pattern to take us into Lent term. With this in mind, our result is a solid and promising showing. The race itself was incredibly consistent, and I was really impressed with the way we held our technique and never wavered from a strong, long rhythm. The rate never dropped below 32.5, and pushes regularly squeezed us up into 33 and 34. We achieved today what we wanted to do, which was row the race in a good pattern, maintaining the length and relaxation that characterises our good strokes.
Next term we need to add the power to this. Focussed, committed land training over the holiday and throughout next term will give us the power and stamina we need to continue developing our stroke. Onwards and upwards, boys!

Mich term is always a preparatory, ground setting term and Fairbairns was a very good opportunity to test our selves for the rowing season to follow. The general aim of the term was to find and set a rhythm, keep our timing and maintain that long consistent stroke and we did it. :) Seriously, it felt like one of the most relaxed races and it was Fairbairns... From the start we built in a comfortable 29-30 rate, and we kept it consistently through out the course. We had some bursts and builds when necessary, at the P&E and top of the reach to prepare for the second half of the race. We kept it sharp around the corners, thanks need to go to Tom for his professional steering and the amazing ladies in the bows for the exceptionally beautiful corners. If only we can master the catches, oops the places I meant... Overall a very promising result ladies!! Committed land training did the job.. We just need to keep it up over the break and throughout next term. Very exciting times ahead :) Bring on holiday training!!
