Semi-final: We weren't sure what this crew were going to be like, but Thomas of Emma was proving himself pretty handy in a scull in the Freshman races. Things weren't looking good after I crabbed off the start, but we recovered quickly and stayed roughly on station until about Plough Reach. At this point we took it to them and we'd taken half a station out of them by the marker posts at the beginning of the Reach, where the Emma bank party had been waiting to check the distance. At that point it was just a case of maintaining the solid rowing into the headwind to the finish.

Final: A good start and excellent bank steering round the corners saw us close to 3-4 lengths by the Reach. A solid Wincunian rhthym down the Reach took us over the line with most of the distance eaten up. We'd seen Seb Pancratz out in a scull what seemed like every day of last term, and their sculling was looking very tidy, so much so that a certain member of the bank party commented as we crossed the finish line: "Well, that was unexpected!" A good result for a crew with only one practice outing under our belts.
