Hanna reports:
No better way to test our start of term fitness than in a 2 x 2k race! We had a strong start and quickly found our race rhythm at rate 34. Having M2 starting behind us was a great motivation to push extra hard. The middle section of the first 2k felt more challenging than expected, but we still managed to push up the rate and finish strong.
After a break that felt way too short, we were off again. This time we really felt the fatigue but we pushed through together with some good resets out of the corners and finished head to head with a respectable time of 16:05.6 - fast enough to top our category and go home with some lovely new glasses. Very motivating start to the term!

W2 report:
Having been gently advised by Gripper earlier in the week to tackle Head 2 Head at rate 26, W2 went into the race determined to show the results of a long vacation of training. After one of the Cam’s smoother marshalling sessions, W2 set off for the two kilometres downstream at a healthy rate 32. With a gorgeous sit and the newfound ability to synchronously rock over, the crew were delighted to hear Dan’s shrieks that their split was below two minutes. Thanks to M1 cheering W2 through their last one hundred meters, the crew sailed over the first finish line in high spirits, ready to tackle the return leg.
After some more entertaining marshalling - namely watching an X-Press VIII trying to capsize a group of City sculls - W2 set off on the two kilometres upstream. Despite some headwind and the pressure of the stream, the crew walked through each stroke, maintaining a steady, powerful rhythm before emptying the tank with Dan’s shouts of “FLYYY AND DIEEE”. With a little Canadian rowing (Gripper was out of sight) the crew returned to the boathouse for cake. Many thanks to Bryher and Annabel for subbing into what almost became a Michaelmas W2 reunion.
