8th fastest Mays Women's 1st Division in a time of 5:59.4 and winners of the Champion Cox award for best line round Ditton Corner
We set off for Champs Head feeling excited to be racing again. We had a solid paddle up to the lock where we span, and all was going well until Daphne's footplate broke, the marshals were asking us to row on to the start and we were being attacked by a rather angry swan. We found ourselves on the starting line, footplate thankfully fixed, swan firmly behind us, and we were off! We had a solid start in spite of the swan - who decided to fly over the boat and attempt to land on Paola in the bow seat. We managed to just miss him by taking a tight line round Ditton corner. We raced down the reach and there was solid commitment from every rower throughout the race. We pushed for the finished off the railway bridge with the boat picking up speed for the final push to see us finishing 8th in the Mays 1st Division. Everyone enjoyed the race and we've got plenty to take forward to our remaining races this term. We were awarded the Champion Cox award for the line around Ditton, which I'm pretty pleased with given it was my first time coxing a first boat in a race!
