Jordan Liang and Shamsher Bhangal report:
Race 1: Clare vs Magdelene
With both crews practising their crabs, Clare came out victorious and vowed not to catch any more in the next races.
Quarter-final: Clare vs Christ’s
The boys put down better power in the second race; their legs were on. And with that, Clare won the second race.
Semi-final: Clare vs Downing
Downing came away with a good start, but Clare remembered how to put the power down. At the same time, Clare activated their DRS (drag reduction system), and increased their race pace to 70 strokes per minute. Clare won the race.
Final: Clare vs Queen’s
The Clare boys put up a good fight against Queen’s. Queen’s put in excellent strength and won the race. Well done to Queen’s, and good job to the novice men.
Overall, there were no ejector crabs, only a few normal crabs, but lots of smiles by the end.
Thanks to Magdelene, Christ’s, Downing, and Queen’s NM1s for some great races.
A big thank you to all the marshalls, and to Emma Boat Club for organising the race.

1st Novice Women's VIII
Bow: Lily Roett 2: Amy Cook 3: Millie Howat 4: Claire Wilkins 5: Sophia Summers 6: Alex Shaw 7: Kara Dionisio Stroke: Sophie Martin Cox: Emma Sainsbury
Beat Clare Hall NW1; lost to Girton NW1.
Emma Sainsbury reports:
NW1 had a great morning racing at Emma Sprints today! We had a really strong start in our first race winning against Clare Hall, although they were creeping up on us at the end. The second race against Girton was a bit messier, partly because one rower’s shoe ripped off from the boat early on so we lost. We all had a really good time anyway, finishing off with some mince pies at the boat house.
