This was some of the best paddling you guys have done all term, and BY FAR the best rate-work. You zipped down the course at a springy 35, and the responses to Jin's calls were amazing. If you can bring that through into Bumps, you're set to do very well indeed!

That's really, really frustrating. There was a total of four seconds between us and the fastest non-qualifying crew, so it really was incredibly close. The actual race, though, was extremely good. After a really solid start, we settled at a rate 37 for the first push into First Post Corner, which came down to a sustainable 34 / 33 for the remainder of the race. The crosswind pushed us into quite a wide line round Grassy, but any potential problem was averted by some lovely pressure from bowsidfe.

In fact, I was particularly impressed by the response to the pressure calls: when used in conjunction with fast arms at the finish, they made a huge difference. Our boat speed really picked up into the last few hundred metres of the race, and it was great to be able to call "drive!" and see the change being made.

Once again, guys, I think that we've been extremely unlucky not to get on. Hopefully the video that Sean took will go up on the website soon, and we can all get down to obsessively analysing it. In the meantime, let's get down to the bank in force to cheer on the rest of CBC!

It's such a shame that we were unlucky with the weather this term. Had you had just a few more outings, I think that you could have found those extra few seconds of speed you needed. However, this should not detract from what is already a fantastic achievement - only the second W3 ever to do the Lents Getting-On-Race, and the fastest non-qualifying W3 overall! This bodes great things for Mays - well done!
