In the wake of some ... interesting marshalling before the start (read: carnage due to the lights and the stream), we were able to get a few builds in before spinning and rowing up to the start. Some of these felt really clean, particularly the half-slide rate build; definitely one to keep in the bank for the future.

Going off the start, we built it up pretty smoothly, settling onto 32 in a headwind and a massive stream. Some strong pushes out of First Post and into Plough Reach really brought the swing together, a much-needed change that we held on to as we came into the last 500m past the Railings. Perhaps most impressive of all, though, was the build to the line; we took it up to 35 strokes per minute, holding onto the length as we did so. The boat speed really picked up during those last 15 strokes or so, and coming through the finish it felt like we could have held onto that for a little longer.

With that in mind, we're all looking forward to Bedford next weekend; it's another 2k head race, so we'll be able to bring on the build to the line a touch earlier, and in doing so really make the most of the endurance we've been building up on the ergs.
