Newnham Short Course was our second race of the term. After de-kitting our many layers and with fresh legs we started strong. Halfway through, as we grew tired and rowed into the headwinds, our power dropped. The sight of Downing W1 gaining on us was slightly off-putting. For the last 500m, with a call from Ben to “reset” and “put the power in the legs”, we picked up and gained our original power resulting in a nice strong finish. After the race, we knew we could have done better but felt confident in our ability for our next race. The fact that we had two lots of race cake also made it better.
